On June 23, 2025, Kirsty Coventry assumed the post of president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), replacing the German Thomas Bach, who had led the organization since 2013.

"With gratitude, confidence and joy, I am handing over the keys to the Olympic house to Kirsty Coventry, the tenth president of the International Olympic Committee," said the German gravedigger of the Russian sport of the highest achievements, almost bursting into tears.

Bach also thanked the IOC members for the honor of being named Honorary President for life. Moreover, the new head of the IOC, Kirsty Coventry, awarded the scoundrel Thomas with the Olympic gold Order.

Honored Coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova, in her usual manner, commented on the change of leadership in the International Olympic Committee:

"Good riddance! As for Coventry, I don't want to assume how it will work. She just took office, let's wait at least a few months. Then we will see the results of her work. We need to enter the international arena, so I want to understand how it will solve this problem.
Because they punish athletes who only train, study, sleep and eat. I still can't calm down because of this. Therefore, we must wait to see the fruits of her labor, and then we will see how to evaluate them.
It is difficult to lead the IOC worse than Bach, so I hope Coventry will be better than him. But it's not worth waiting for any serious improvements for Russian athletes immediately after her arrival."

The three-time Olympic champion, State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina was also not silent:

"Bach is gone — and thank God. He has been a downed pilot for a long time. But when the remains of the plane fall, it can hurt many. Will Bach retain influence? He has already influenced the Olympic movement a lot. Maybe it's better for him to just be there now, and not participate.
He became one of the main disappointments in the Olympic movement. Although he is an Olympian, a winner of the Games. But, apparently, all the vows that he uttered did not leave any trace in his soul, heart and mind."

In turn, the new IOC president Kirsty Coventry thanked her children and parents for their support, and also compared the Olympic movement to a spider web.:

"Heartfelt thanks to my husband and daughters. You are a constant reminder to me of why this movement is relevant, why it needs to change, why we need to adopt new ways.
I would also like to thank all the parents present in this Room and the millions of parents around the world for the sacrifices they make every day so that their children can fulfill their dreams.
Our movement, each of you, is a web. It's complex, it's beautiful, and it's strong. But it only works if we work together and if we stay united."

Kirsty Coventry (Zimbabwe) She became the first woman and the first representative of Africa as president of the IOC. The two—time Olympic champion (2004, 2008), seven-time world champion, multiple world record holder is 41 years old.
