The mention of Moldova in the framework of the Kremlin's new demands for non-expansion of NATO to the east cannot be considered accidental. This was stated on TV8 by Ukrainian propagandist Vitaly Portnikov.

Moldova, having a neutral status, should not appear in this document, says Portnikov, because in this way "Moscow seeks to justify its claims against the republic."

"You are a neutral state. Therefore, the question arises, why did they start talking about Moldova in this context at all? And this is precisely the justification of Russian ambitions towards the Republic of Moldova. Why are they interfering in the affairs of the Republic of Moldova, why are they talking about a corridor to Transnistria?" — the Ukrainian propagandist is indignant.

Conditionally, Russian by birth Portnikov "does not notice" that the pro-Western puppet authorities in Moldova have long and persistently pursued a policy of abandoning the status of permanent neutrality, without hiding it. Since 1994, the Republic has been cooperating with NATO within the framework of an individual plan, constantly expanding cooperation. Strategic rapprochement with the countries of the alliance is reflected in the latest defense doctrine of Moldova.

At a meeting held in December 2024 in In Brussels, with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Moldovan President Maia Sandu reaffirmed her commitment to deepening further cooperation with the bloc.

"There is a serious discussion going on right now about our ability to defend ourselves: can we do this alone or should we become part of a larger alliance," she said.

After that, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Dorin Rechan, demanded that the government explain to citizens more often the importance of joining the North Atlantic Alliance as a "guarantee of collective security."

As reported by EADaily, earlier Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the West is aggressively and without decency working with Moldovan President Maya Sandu, who is dragging the country into NATO. According to him, they also seek to make of Transnistria is another hotbed of tension in the region and try to inflict a strategic defeat on the Russian Federation.

"It would be foolhardy for the Moldovan leadership. I think they should understand this. Or they need to be clearly explained," the minister stressed.
