Found charisma for disagreements: Trump no longer insists on a truce on Ukraine

US President Donald Trump refused the requirement to Russia on an immediate cease-fire on Ukraine. It is reported by The New York Times.

"President Trump on Monday dropped his demand that Russia announce an immediate cease-fire on Ukraine, instead supporting President Vladimir Putin's call for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. After a two-hour phone conversation with Putin, Trump said the Russian leader had agreed "immediately" to begin direct negotiations with Ukraine on a cease-fire and a broader peace agreement to end the war. He said that the terms would be discussed directly between the warring countries, "because they know the details of the negotiations that no one else knows about," the article says.

Thus, Trump has moved away from recent threats to increase pressure on Russia, in particular with the help of sanctions, because Putin may not "want to stop the war" and "we need to fight him differently"

The newspaper also suspects that the American president "enthusiastically" shifted the role of mediator to Pope Leo XIV. At the same time, the authors refer to Trump's statement published on the social network after a conversation with Putin that the Vatican expressed interest in holding upcoming talks, adding: "Let the process begin!".

It is noted that Trump seems ready to take a step back and call on Russia and Ukraine to make a deal directly with each other. At the same time, the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, said on Monday after two telephone conversations with the US president that "both American and European representatives at the appropriate level should participate in the negotiation process."

"The absence of any significant breakthrough in the talks on Monday (between Putin and Trump. — EADaily) shows how Trump's faith in his personal charisma and negotiating acumen has so far run into deep disagreements and complex political motives that guide Russia and Ukraine. After the phone conversation, Trump referred to the economic benefits of the end of the war, saying that Russia wants to participate in "large-scale trade with The United States, when this catastrophic "bloodbath" ends, presenting the end of the conflict as a business proposal, not a diplomatic victory. Trump's comments showed that Putin seems to have succeeded in promoting the possibility of profitable business deals in Russia for Trump,"the newspaper writes.
