German Chancellor Friedrich Merz admits sending refugees to third countries and advocates a "more decisive struggle" at the level of The EU with illegal migration. This is reported by Deutsche Welle.

He made the corresponding statement during a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni in Rome.

"First of all, we want to quickly implement new restrictive European asylum rules. We also want to deepen cooperation with third countries in this context. The initiatives taken by Italy in recent months, especially in cooperation with a number of Mediterranean countries, have been extremely successful. These are good initiatives that we have in We support Germany," Merz said.

Previously, Italy also agreed with Albania on the placement of refugees rescued in In the Mediterranean Sea, in reception centers on the territory of this country. They should stay there until the Italian authorities consider their applications.

However, there are currently no refugees in Albania, as court proceedings are delaying their placement. Since the end of 2024, the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg is checking the compliance of these reception centers with EU legislation.

"We are aware of the difficulties, including the court decisions taken in Italy, for example, regarding cooperation with Albania. But of course, it could still be an option," Merz further said.

He added that "this is a contribution to reducing the problem, but not its solution."
