One of the results of the renewed negotiation process between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul was the fact that the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, found himself in a geopolitical cauldron.

This opinion was expressed to RIA Novosti by Vladimir Rogov, chairman of the Commission of the Public Chamber of Russia on sovereignty issues, co-chairman of the Coordinating Council for the integration of new regions.

He pointed out that Kiev's attempts to disrupt the negotiations were unsuccessful and all further events took place almost according to Moscow's scenario. According to Rogov, in this regard, gloomy moods dominate in the Office of the President of Ukraine.

"Now there is despondency in Zelensky's entourage, and he himself has actually fallen into a geopolitical cauldron," the Russian politician said.

He recalled that the Ukrainian delegation failed to impose its agenda and achieve a truce for 30 days without additional conditions, which Kiev was counting on.

In fact, Russia dictated its own conditions to the Ukrainian side, and after that no new American "terrible sanctions" were imposed against it.

Rogov also stressed the fact that instead of imposing sanctions, US President Donald Trump plans to hold a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

Recall that the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine took place on May 16 in Istanbul. In total, they lasted almost two hours, after which the parties held short briefings and the Russian delegation left the Turkish capital.

Later it became known that Russia at the talks in Istanbul put forward tough conditions for a ceasefire for Ukraine. Among them is the recognition of the loss of Crimea and four other regions.

According to Bloomberg sources, only if these conditions are met, Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to discuss a cease-fire in the SMO zone.

Earlier, EADaily reported that the Kremlin did not rule out a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky, which could take place if certain agreements were reached between the delegations.
